About Dr Josh
I originally studied medicine at the University of Bristol and practised as an NHS doctor for the first 10 years of my career.
It was a hugely rewarding job, and it was a great privilege to save lives. But there were significant sacrifices, and ultimately I decided I’d like to transfer and develop many of my skills and pursue a new career path.
In 2007, I was awarded a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Bath School of Management, consistently recognised as one of the UK’s best business schools.
I’ve worked in financial services for more than 15 years, the majority of which have been as a financial planner for a number of high-profile national and regional firms.
I actively chose to retrain as a financial planner because health and wealth are intrinsically linked, and if both are optimised you can transform people’s lives for the better.
I now own and run our practice based in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, Wales. We specialise in helping individuals and their families achieve financial security and freedom. This allows them to concentrate on enjoying their lives.
Our clients come from all backgrounds, including the private and public sector, as well as arts and culture.
In 2023, I was invited to join the first cohort of the ground-breaking Adviser Incubator, set up by the Verve Foundation. This initiative was designed to support advisers who want to scale their business with intention.
I’ve regularly appeared in The Times, The Telegraph, and The Mail on Sunday newspapers as one of the UK’s Top Rated Financial Advisers (VouchedFor).
I’ve also appeared in the personal finance media highlighting the benefits of moving into financial planning after an established career in another field.
Dr Josh outside of work
I’m married to Sarah, who continues to help patients in the NHS as a hospital consultant.
I have three teenage children who try to keep me up to date with the world of sport and modern technology!
We live next to a working farm and closely watch the different seasons pass.
We used to have a menagerie of chickens and ducks when our children were younger. But now we’re just left with our three rescue cats, Molly, Max, and Jerry.
I’ve always taken an interest in the natural world and enjoyed the great outdoors.
I’m a keen gardener, and at home you’ll often find me designing a new border, working in the vegetable garden, or reflecting on life over a cup of tea.
We have a small orchard with a number of old fruit trees, which are great for making crumble and jam. Making homemade cider is one of my own retirement projects!
I try to keep fit by walking and running near my home in the Wye Valley.
My family have always been car enthusiasts, with my uncle racing Jaguars in the 1940s and 50s. I’ve inherited that interest, and have a owned a number of classic sports cars over the years.
I also enjoy watching motorsport, travelling in the UK and overseas, and catching up with friends and family over a hearty meal.
